There’s much to commend the idea of properly integrating PlayStation Studios games into the wider PSN ’ecosystem’ - and we’ve seen this level of console/PC integration pay off handsomely on Xbox Live, meaning that PC and console users can form groups and play multiplayer titles together, Achievements/Trophies could also be synchronised, but perhaps the most enticing level of functionality would be the transfer of saves between platforms. Acknowledgement of a PlayStation account already owning the game could lead to (a hushed awe please) cross-buy purchases, or at the very least a good degree of discount....

The RTX 4080 12GB’s pricing only really makes sense if you can ignore the existence of the RTX 3080 and the wealth of availability for the Ampere line-up both in terms of brand-new stock and second-hand bargains. Launching at $699 in 2020, it was based on the same GA102 processor as the much more expensive RTX 3090 - which was only about 15 percent faster. At the most extreme end, a $2000 RTX 3090 Ti arrived much later - and yet it’s still only about 25 percent faster than the standard 3080....

When Nintendo launched the Switch in 2017, it was clear that it represented a different direction from the family focused Wii era. Due perhaps in part to the rise in mobile gaming, Nintendo clearly felt the need to shift back into the more traditional gaming space with Switch and, over the last five years, I’d say it has delivered on these promises. Look closely, though, and you’ll still spot echoes of the Wii era - and that becomes more evident with the release of Nintendo Switch Sports....

WitcherSeb has been hard at work modding The Witcher 3 to match the Netflix show. Last year the modder released a mod to change Geralt’s face to that of actor Henry Cavill, as well as mods to add Anya Chalotra’s likeness to Yennefer and Freya Allan’s likeness to Ciri. Now WitcherSeb has a new mod that tweaks Geralt’s clothes too. Where the game has Geralt in more traditional armour, the Netflix show gives him an all-black attire....

The company said EA Sports PGA Tour, which is built using the Frostbite engine, will include many of the world’s most famous courses, and lets you play against and as some of the biggest names in professional golf. But it didn’t say which courses or golfers, and didn’t say when the game will come out. It did say it had signed a long-term deal with the PGA Tour, so this amounts to EA getting back into golf games at a time when rival publisher 2K signed a long-term deal of its own with Tiger Woods for PGA Tour 2K....

The glitch involves the Carian Retaliation Ash of War that, when applied to a shield, allows players to parry magic projectiles. So far, so legit. However, as reported by Kotaku, the skill can also be used to parry the player’s own magic attacks, which not only turn invisible but scale with the shield’s upgrade level for huge damage. This is all well and good against the game’s league of bosses, but players are using this (seeming) glitch in online play to destroy rival players....

A teaser for the crossover - dubbed The Interstellar Convergence - appeared on Eve’s YouTube channel this afternoon but offers few clues as to exactly what will happen. Nevertheless, we see the iconic BBC sci-fi series’ time vortex and, at the end, a Dalek mothership powering up. “Weapons systems restoring!” screams a familiar Dalek voice. It’s far from Doctor Who’s first foray into the world of video games, though this is the franchise’s most high profile games venture in some time....

Australian company Pokémon Pty Ltd set up and advertised a website claiming to be launching a crypto game called PokéWorld (thanks, Vooks). The company even claimed to have worked on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon Home and Pokémon Sleep. The Pokémon Company International has asked the court to seek a resolution to stop Pokémon Pty Ltd from using their trademarks, and to stop the game’s launch as well as selling any NFTs using their intellectual property....

The old-school isometric role-playing games are collectively available now for free until 4pm UK time tomorrow as part of Epic’s Christmas giveaway promotion. The trio replace yesterday’s giveaway, Lego Builder’s Journey. At 4pm tomorrow, the Fallouts will themselves be replaced by another game, officially unannounced but rumoured to be tactical sci-fi RPG Encased. Interplay’s Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics are classics of their genre, and predate Bethesda’s take on the series which kicked off with Fallout 3 and the move to first-person....

EA has announced a collaboration with Marvel that reimagines some of the most famous footballers of yesteryear as superheroes. Ex-footballers such as USA stalwart Landon Donovan, legendary Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho and all-conquering Man City midfielder Yaya Touré have unique illustrated designs that replace real-world player photos in FIFA 23’s Ultimate Team mode. EA has confirmed five players as superheroes so far. Donovan is The Brave - a clear nod to Captain America....
