Numerous reports of sexual misconduct sparked a round of departures from the company, but Ubisoft has remained under pressure ever since - and even this week - from staff who feel the publisher has not done enough. On Thursday, in Paris, at a briefing attended by Eurogamer, Guillemot described the moment as a “stumble” which the company had since acknowledged and learned from. “Our goal is to offer the best working environment for them to thrive and reach their full potential,” Guillemot said....

That’s according to the website Playing for the Planet, an UN-led initiative which seeks to use games to “inspire young people to learn and act in support of the environment”. For instance, for Riders Republic, Ubisoft says it will host a “short and intense” in-game event in Phoenix which will promote “strategies to reduce wildfire frequency and size as well as have an emotional impact on players regarding the consequences of wildfires”....

Hyper Scape made its debut in August 2020 after a short PC-only beta, where it was immediately met with a lukewarm reception - Eurogamer called it “as smart as it is generic”. Less than three month later, Ubisoft announced it was embarking on a major overhaul of its 100-player battle royale experience so it could reach its “full potential”. Despite that pledge, development stalled soon after - Hyper Scape’s most recent season of content, Season 3, arrived last March, and the game has only been updated once since then, halting at Version 3....

Ubisoft Quartz released its first NFT items as part of Breakpoint - which will no longer be updated, despite the NFT items only being added over the past couple of months. By snippet, I really do mean snippet. The footage from PlayStation lasts a breezy 22 seconds and does not show any combat. Rather, it shows Aloy on a fairly sedate Shrine walk. That is not to say this teaser (am I being too generous calling it that?) is not pretty. Naturally, the words “live service” give some people the ick, and that’s fair enough - but it’s also the type of game where vast numbers of players want to spend their time, and the type of game that, in bottling the magic of fun-with-friends, can often capture the very best of the medium.
