Fabrik will now become part of Firesprite, and boost its overall headcount up to 265. Firesprite was formed from the remnants of Sony Liverpool - which PlayStation shut down back in 2012. Now it has quietly grown to become one of the largest development teams in the UK, and has found itself back as a first-party studio. The addition of Fabrik’s team to Firesprite makes a lot of sense - the former was spun out of Firesprite by its boss to develop indie games, though ended up working with Firesprite on its recent project The Persistence....

The new games for Switch were announced back in February, and are essentially retro-style remakes of the original Diamond and Pearl games. In the overworld characters take on a chibi art style, but there are also full-size Pokémon battles. Another Sinnoh game arrives early next year, called Pokémon Legends Arceus, which sees players explore a more feudal version of the region with old school pokéballs - and you’ll be tasked with creating the first ever Pokédex....

Several Pokémon species will debut in Pokémon Go for the first time, most notably the gourd-like Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist, as well as the spooky tree creatures Phantump and Trevenant. With Pumpkaboo, Pokémon Go gets a new size mechanic. This creature is unusual as it comes in four different size variants, which then determine what size of Gourgeist it evolves into. For such a competitive game, that may seem like an oversight. However, it’s been done on purpose. According to a report by Kotaku, developer TiMi Studio Group decided not to show the score to avoid player dropouts. “The matches last ten minutes and players have the possibility of making a comeback, so we wanted people to play without giving up to the very end,” said Masaaki Hoshino, Pokémon Unite’s producer....

In a newly released statement posted to Twitter, Ubisoft wrote, “Since announcing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake in September, we saw an outpouring of feedback from you on this beloved franchise. It is your passion and support that is driving our development teams to make the best game possible.” With that in mind, the decision has been made to push the game’s 18th March launch back “to a later date” and the publisher says it will be using the additional development time to “deliver a remake that feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original”....
