A raft of factors play into a battle, including height advantage, formation (tight and loose), melee stance (push, give ground etc), different modes of archery, fatigue and the weather. The tactical retreat looks particularly nice. For me what’s truly impressive about Manor Lords is how sophisticated it looks given it’s the work of just one developer: Greg Styczen....

Titled Resident Evil 4 HD Project, the aim of the project is to upscale the textures using the original sources collected by Capcom during the original game’s development. Further, the project will correct texture mapping, improve lighting and enhance objects to 3D models, while maintaining the artistic vision of the original game. The developer duo behind the project have released a new trailer, noting that every texture in the game has been remastered....

Capcom will run the test from Wednesday 7th April at 11pm PT (8th April at 7am UK) to Saturday 10th April at 11pm PT (11th April at 7am UK). The open beta will be available to try on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam, and you can get the download going early from Monday 5th April at 5pm PT (6th April at 1am UK). Shown at the Xbox + Bethesda Games Showcase, Scorn will be arriving on 21st October - just in time for Halloween. It’ll be an Xbox Series X and S console exclusive, and available on Game Pass on day one. Surrounded by nightmarish, biomechanical contraptions, you must explore your environment to progress,” according to the official blurb....

In a first for the company, the game has nothing to do with Shovel Knight. Rather, this time players will have the chance to take on the mantle of Mina, an adorable but lethal mouse. Don’t let their cute façade fool you though. Yacht Club has promised players a “bone chilling” experience. On a quest to save a cursed island from the perils that have befallen it, Mina must “leap, dodge, and burrow through the ground” while fighting off monsters with her trusty whip Nightstar or other various trinkets and sidearms....

Shovel Knight Dig is a fresh spin on the Shovel Knight series of Duck Tales-inspired platformers. Like Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon, it’s sort of a sidestory. Pocket Dungeon turned the action-heavy core of the games into a block puzzler. Dig initially seems like a blend of Mr Driller and Downwell. You dig down through soil and rock, collecting gems, fighting baddies, travelling through themed worlds. Classic Driller/Downwell stuff. Thing is, it doesn’t feel like either game, That’s because while Dig is a Shovel Knight game and a Yacht Club game, it’s also a Nitrome game - it’s a true collaboration....

Having gotten an Oculus Quest 2 last month, games were needed for my fancy new tech. Granted, a Quest port of a four-year-old Oculus Rift game is an odd choice, considering it didn’t even launch with motion controls initially, but it set a high bar early for what VR could offer. Back in 2016, modern VR was finding its feet and VR games felt more like tech demos, not full experiences - a situation which has long since improved....

This battery powers an internal clock the console uses to check eligibility for game ownership. Without the battery - such as when it naturally drains - both physical and digital games are left unplayable without connecting online. Reports this week suggested the problem had been fixed in the v9.0 software update, even though it is not mentioned in Sony’s official patch notes. Our Digital Foundry team has since been able to corroborate this and confirm the problem is indeed now solved....
