Castlevania: Nocturne will follow the adventures of two characters that should be immediately familiar to fans of the video games - Richter Belmont (a distant descendant of original Netflix series leads Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belndaes) and Maria Renard - with its vampiric action playing out against the backdrop of the French Revolution, circa 1792. Powerhouse, the studio behind Netflix’s original animated Castlevania series will once again be on animation duties for Nocturne, with Kevin Kolde serving as showrunner and Clive Bradley being credited as “creator/writer”....

Netflix announced it was “in the early stages” of expanding into games back in July, explaining it would initially focus on titles for mobile devices. Two such games - Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3 - were added to its entertainment library in August as part of an early Poland-exclusive test, and three more - Shooting Hoops, Teeter (Up), and Card Blast - were introduced during a wider test in September....

In a recent Twitter thread (thanks, Nintendo Everything), adult game publisher Gamuzumi told fans it had heard back from Nintendo after facing an unexpected delay in the launch of its most recent title, Hot Tentacles Shooter. According to Gamuzumi, which describes itself as a “boutique publisher focused on releasing mature or ’ecchi’ [softcore hentai] titles”, Nintendo has now ruled that games featuring topless anime women are no longer allowed. This decision, Gamuzumi said, has also blocked the launch of another of its games: Elves Christmas Hentai Puzzle....

Olija has a really good fall. It’s towards the end of this short adventure: a rickety elevator collapses and then you fall down, down, down. And it has a bit of texture to it. Olija gains a considerable amount of its charm, if you ask me, from the fact that this action-platformer is also a flip-screen action-platformer. This gives it some of the flavour of flip-screen classics like Another World, or even Zelda, that first game famously inspired by Miyamoto messing around with his desk drawers, imagining a different garden within each one....

Lots of people I’ve spoken to about Omno recently have told me it looks a bit like Journey or those sorts of games. Empty spaces, just you and the environment, sweeping soundtracks and the various distant cries of carefully arranged nature. Epiphany and a decent light show as your reward for hitting your marks and moving forward. When I look at that opening anecdote I’ve just written about, it even sounds a bit like Journey or those sorts of games....

EA’s Online Services Shutdown page has been updated with the addition. “Thanks to everyone who has supported our game - it’s been a RUSH,” it reads. “With player numbers in online modes dropping to low levels, we will be shutting down the servers from 30th November 2022. For OnRush fans who want to continue playing, offline modes will continue to be available.” OnRush was a chaotic spin on arcade racing, which Martin awarded a Recommended in his review in 2018....

McCree is just one of many characters across Blizzard’s portfolio to have taken his name from a developer at the company. However, back in August, Blizzard announced it would be renaming the cowboy after the real-life Jesse McCree, who had been named in several accounts of the studio’s toxic work culture, was confirmed to have departed the company amid the fallout from the lawsuit - although no reason for his exit was given....

This is the second time the switch has now occured, after Pac-Mom previously took Ms Pac-Man’s place in Bandai Namco’s Arcade Archives: Pac-Land earlier this year. Again, the reason for the swap seems to be the messy legal issues surrounding ownership of Ms Pac-Man, which are the subject of a 2019 lawsuit. It is believed the rights to the character now lie with AtGames, a company which produces retro mini-consoles and arcade cabinets....

The developer issued a server-side update to enable the Gauss boss chest to drop legendaries after yesterday preventing all chests from dropping legendary items. “Having listened to very reasonable community feedback, we have enabled the Gauss boss chest to drop legendaries again as we should indeed be rewarding boss runs,” People Can Fly said in a tweet. However, other chests still cannot drop legendaries. This means the popular no combat triple-chest run previously available remains unavailable to those farming for legendaries ahead of the launch of Outriders on 1st April....

The ARPG will debut on PS4 on 31st August, six years after it arrived on PS4 in Japan and over a year later than it arrived in the West on Xbox and PC. Like the versions on other consoles, it will be cross-platform compatible and free-to-play, and carry the “New Genesis” sub-title with fully localised text and character voices in English (thanks, Polygon). Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis - described as the “next-generation” of Phantasy Star Online 2, catapulting the action forward 1,000 years after the Oracle’s battle in PSO2 - released in the West last summer, but only on Xbox and PC....
