Forspoken casts players in the role of Frey Holland - played by Ella Balinska - an “ordinary young woman who must harness her magical abilities to survive” in a “beautiful yet cruel world”. In Forspoken’s previous showing, we got to see Frey evading a dragon, but Square’s latest trailer is considerably more revealing, showcasing a blend of combat, narrative moments, and some splendidly acrobatic traversal across a breathtaking world. Oh, and a talking bracelet....

The improvements to eyes - as well as eyebrows and other facial character customisation - are detailed in the latest update from developer CIG, as it works on Star Citizen’s 3.17 alpha. In a bid for a wider range of faces, elements from existing designs are being combined to offer a greater degree of variety. Further character creator improvements will continue to be made, CIG said, as the game’s long-running development stretches on....

Switch Online subscribers across Europe, Australia, and Japan will be able to play the game for free for a week, from 13th June until 19th June. During that same time, the full game will be discounted in certain regions. Game trials allow Switch Online subscribers to access a game for free for a week. Most recently, that was roguelike Spelunky 2. Sometimes that allows players to whip through something quickly....

Into the Breach’s Advanced Edition update - which will be free to all existing owners on Switch, Mac, and PC - introduces new squads, weapons, pilots (with new pilot abilities), enemies, bosses, missions, and new music from Ben Prunty. It’ll also include a new, more challenging difficulty mode, plus support for seven new languages. Alongside the update for existing platforms, Into the Breach will also be making its iOS and Android debut on 19th July....

Mask of the Rose takes place in 1862, around three decades prior to the events of Sunless Sea and Failbetter’s acclaimed browser game Fallen London, and focuses on events shortly after the city (an alternate-universe version of Victorian London) is stolen by bats and carried to a vast underground cavern system deep beneath the Earth’s surface. Yet while it’s set in the same universe, Mask of the Rose is a somewhat different proposition to Failbetter Games’ previously titles, slotting into a the mould of a romantic visual novel, albeit one that retains Failbetter’s darkly irresistible gothic wit and “a hint of murder”....

The game was originally intended to release on 3rd December, but Nintendo announced the news saying “the game just needs a little more time for fine tuning”. “You’ll be battling with Andy & friends soon! Thanks for your patience.” Andy is the lead character in this remake combining the two beloved GBA strategy titles. The original Advance Wars released back in 2001 and was developed by Intelligent Systems. Like the Fire Emblem series, battles are turn-based but feature modern warfare elements like tanks, guns and aircraft with a cute cartoon aesthetic....

The revamped role-playing classic will offer the title of “Flamescale” for characters whose date of birth is listed as between 2nd and 25th May. However, the game then tells you “Flamescale” is actually not allowed, as it contains “banned words”. This issue, picked up by fan Choojermelon on Twitter (thanks, PCGamer) appears to stem from the name’s inclusion of “mescal”, the illegal psychedelic enjoyed by Hunter S. Thompson and others....

Speaking to IGN, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said Take-Two - a potential new home for the FIFA brand, post-EA - was keen to continue expanding its sports portfolio, but did not have anything to announce regarding FIFA at the moment. “We’re definitely interested in expanding our opportunities in sports,” Zelnick said, “and FIFA has a great brand and incredible clout, but we have no current plans to discuss.” Take-Two is the parent company behind Rockstar Games, Private Division and 2K, the latter of which publishes sports game series such as WWE 2K and NBA 2K....

This new unnamed mode is the auto battler’s first new mode, and is designed “for when you absolutely need to get a game in 20 minutes or less”. Typically, games of Teamfight Tactics can last 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how well you do. During a all things Riot livestream (watch the Teamfight Tactics portion in the video below), TJ Bourus, product lead for Teamfight Tactics described the new mode as something to play “when you’re short on time, like during meetings, during class, late at night, on your commute, waiting for food, or, yes, even when you’re on the john”....

First up, let’s give the cats their time to shine. It is, after all, the game of their kin. “#Stray is a 100/10 game. Those who have played through Breath of the Wild will know that Link slowly starts to regain his memories of the events before and during the Great Calamity as the game progresses (of course, this being Breath of the Wild, you could also blast through without collecting a single one of these memories if facing off against Ganon with the bare essentials is more your thing). The final memory can only be discovered when players have collected the 12 others scattered across Hyrule and cannot be happened upon by accident (which incidentally is how I found most of them - my geographical recognition was pretty poor during my first playthrough)....

Black Lab Games’ well-received turn-based strategy game launched on PC earlier this year before arriving on consoles. The Necrons arrive during the first quarter of 2022. I had a lot of fun with the Battlesector campaign, despite its obvious limitations. My impressions are over in an August entry of What we’ve been playing. Pretty much everyone agrees Battlesector is in dire need of new factions (currently you can play as the Blood Angels and Tyranids only), so I’m delighted to see the Necrons are on their way....

Special Delivery Charizard is an eye-catching take on everyone’s favourite Starter evolution - which imagines him as a postman. The card is strongly reminiscent of the famous Dragonite promo card given out many, many years ago to celebrate the Pokémon franchise’s first movie launching in cinemas. It featured an ability named Special Delivery, which seems to have inspired Charizard’s title here. Getting your hands on this card requires a couple of steps, however....

“We had a bit of a weird thing with the multiplayer because… part of our team is based out in the Ukraine… So, we had to delay the multiplayer because they had to move,” The Quarry creative director Will Byles told IGN. “We had to move the server from Kyiv up into Warsaw and those guys had to get out [of] there because it was obviously really dangerous.” Byles went on to reveal that even with this upheaval, the multiplayer is still set to release by 8th July at the latest, as previously promised....

By aligning with the First Order, the Resistance, and the Scoundrels, you can meet iconic Star Wars characters and undertake themed missions. The good news you don’t have to align with one alone - you’re able to work with all three over the course of playing the expansion. Of course, the First Order and Resistance might not be a fan of you working with the other - while the Scoundrels are pretty easy going....

Rapture’s Big Daddies As a fan of Batman, you’d expect my favourite city to be Gotham City in the Arkham series. But… “I rejected these answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose Rapture!” The underwater city of Rapture in Bioshock is my favourite city in games, and it’s due to the presence of the iconic Big Daddies. Try to cast your mind back to Bioshock....

It’s taking place from 22-25 September, with showcases of playable games, the return of The Leftfield Collection - always a favourite - and a Tabletop Zone, Developer Panels and plenty more besides. There’ll also be plenty of opportunities to come and say hello, or at the very least take me on in a game of Arms on the showfloor, as we’ll be in attendance for much of the show. Tickets are now on sale from the EGX website - and it’s worth noting Virgin Media and O2 customers can get 50 per cent off Early Entry tickets through priority booking....

On Nintendo’s Customer Support page regarding the upcoming closure of the Wii U and 3DS eshops to new purchases, it states: “As of May 23, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a credit card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.” Eurogamer checked earlier, and at the time of writing you could still add funds with a credit card through a Nintendo account, so you have time to get yourself topped up if this is your preferred method....
